Why Fussy?

Hi out there! Welcome to The Fussy Foodie and thanks for stumbling across my blog. So who am I and why am I The Fussy Foodie?

Firstly my name is Priscilla, most of my friends call me Sill. I’m a wife and a mum, I work in a job outside of food and blogging and I yearn for yummy, delicious, flavour-packed food. I love flavour.

I’m Fussy for a couple of reasons. Firstly I’ve been called fussy all my life. There are just certain things I don’t like to eat. But on the other hand, there are so many things I love. It is just that the things I don’t like are fairly common things like seafood, corn, capsicum… um… yes there are more! My mother-in-law has a little list on her fridge of what I won’t eat, I think she adds something else each time we visit! But really, there is tonnes out there I love. When recently watching a reality cooking show on TV though I commented to my husband that I could never go on one of those shows as there is so much I wouldn’t eat. I commented that I was too fussy to be a foodie… and then something sparked in my creative brain space… aaaahhh… I could be The Fussy Foodie… and here I am

The other reason I’m a Fussy Foodie is because I’m pretty particular about what I’ll cook with and eat – I am a principled cook. I buy free-range, local and organic where possible.

I’m also really fussy about not using pre-made ingredients, not using or consuming artificial anything and making most everything from scratch. It becomes a bit of a cross to bear but when I pick up a packet or jar of something and look at the ingredients – and then do a quick search on my phone to see if there is a recipe that I could make then usually I’ll go for option b – make it myself. And I have to say – there is a certain sense of satisfaction knowing that you’ve created something from scratch.

My kitchen is a normal, household kitchen. The only non-standard gadget I have is a Thermomix which a girlfriend at work calls my ‘fancy-pants blender’. I have a regular pantry and love to keep it stocked full of staples including a good spice range. I’ll post more on that from time to time. So I’m just like any regular cook out there, which is why I hope you’ll like what I do, because I hope it is easy to see that you can do it too.

So those are the basic principles of my cooking – lots of flavour, food with a conscience and making food from scratch that is as close to nature and unprocessed as possible. Nothing’s off limits, you won’t find low-fat/no-fat here – just whole food and yumminess.
